Spouts or ‘lips’ from which liquid is poured have become quite predictable in their form as well as their use and nowadays the act of pouring is something we do without thinking. We are able to pour a liquid without much spilling even when we don’t fully concentrate on what we are doing. This is partly thanks to our collective drive towards a world of hyper efficiency and hyper cleanliness. In a quest to wander off this path, Shaakira conducted an experimental research. The result is Spout, a series of playful pouring vessels, whose aim is to evoke the user with a sense of understanding through using and not acting by merely relying on one’s memory. Designed using unusual forms, shapes and uses, the user automatically becomes more conscious of what he/she is doing while pouring. These forms create refreshing and fun ways to a mundane action like pouring, moving away from hyper cleanliness they can create quite a spill!
